Eli had his 9 month check up this morning (more on his stats later) but with his 9 month check up came some shots! Well shots went well but I know they do make him fussy so I came straight home. I decided since he had just ate and I changed his diaper he would be good to play on the floor while I started on dinner. He is within eye shot of me and I am facing him while I am cutting up all the veggies, when all of a sudden he starts screaming and then starts to gag. I run over to him trying to figure out what is wrong when I notice he is still gagging. I immediately think he has something in his mouth and I shove my finger in there to fish whatever it is out. While I am doing this I am trying to think of what it could possibly be, the floor is clean, there is absolutely nothing smaller than an Easter egg within reach of him, nothing on the floor so I think the dog brought something over and whatever it is Eli somehow got into his mouth. By this point I can't find anything and he is still gagging. I realize he has something down his throat. I turn him around and start hitting between his shoulder blades to try and lodge whatever is in there lose, after about 10 attempts there is nothing, by this point I am really panicking because he isn't gasping for breath but he is crying, gagging and I know there is definitely something in there! I put him on the floor for one last attempt before I call 911 and I see it... yup way in the back of his throat I see a green circular object stuck to the back side. The damn band aid from his shots! The child pulled it off his little thigh and decided he was going to snack on it! I seriously almost fainted and then immediately started crying once I was able to get it out.
So mommies, lesson for the day, It does not matter that the house is absolutely spotless, that you have nothing they can possibly choke on or anything smaller than the inside of a toilet paper roll, children WILL find a way, or will find something... and doctors... we pay you a decent amount of money each time we go in, stop being cheap and buying the tiny band aids that you get in bulk. They obviously don't stick on well and as my child proved it, they ARE a choking hazard!!!!
O jeez! So scary... Glad he is ok and that you didn't have a heart attack!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy he is ok!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that he is OK........thank God!!
ReplyDeleteThis exact thing is my biggest fear with Brayden.....we try to watch them like hawks but they are sneaky sometimes!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that they use those stupid cheap bandages! I feel bad everytime I have to rip the industrial strength ones off Amaya and have a residual glue mark left on her poor leg, but now I will be thankful that at least she won't be able to rip it off on her own...Eli is one michevious little fellow!
