19 Week Update

19 Week Belly Picture

This has definitely been one of the most exciting weeks throughout the pregnancy. I know I have said that a few other times throughout the experience but somehow this week was a lot different. The fact that we had our big ultrasound and were able to find out the sex had a lot to do with it. It seems so real now that we can refer to out baby as "he" or "him" instead of "it". I have caught myself smiling a few times when someone asks me "how is he doing", or "have you felt him kicking". It seems like Mark can't wipe the smile off his face either! When we talk about our baby boy he just gets this smirk on his face and he gets so giddy! Baby boy has been kicking and moving around like crazy in the belly too! I feel him throughout the day now and he stops me dead in my tracks every time! I can't help but hold my hand over my belly and smile at him. Mark and I were out shopping yesterday and we got him two shirts, a pair of jeans and a little hat! I couldn't help it, I have no will power! (I also got him 3 sleepers and 3 bibs the day of the ultrasound) I just had to get it out of my system! :)

Grandma Pacheco came down and was able to join us for the ultrasound, she also got baby boy two little outfits that day! Nana & Tata Taddey have been going crazy getting stuff for him as well. Tata Taddey got him his first pair of basketball shoes (with baby blue laces) a stuffed dog playing basketball, and his first UofA jacket, which Mark of course said he would NEVER let our child wear! Only ASU is welcomed at this house Tata Rey! :)

On a different note, it seems like I have had more morning sickness this week. I start trowing up right after I eat. I also gained 2 more lbs as of the last check up which I think you can start to tell now by looking at my belly and although most people still can't tell I am pregnant, I think I might be making the switch from my regular pants to maternity pants within the next few weeks. I am starting to get uncomfortable now. Tomorrow Baby boy and I will be starting our 20th week in the pregnancy which will mark our "Half way point"! Woohoooo! I am so excited to be halfway there!
Baby at 19 Weeks

Vernix Caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.
