13 weeks and 3 days!

13 Week Belly Picture

So we officially made it through our first trimester and we are very happy to be swinging into the second one now! We had a doctors appointment on Tuesday and everything went great. I can't deny I was a bit nervous considering the spotting with the cramping last weekend. We went it and they weighed me. I still haven't gained any weight, I thought I had since I went a couple of days without being able to button my pants but no extra pounds yet, I am considering myself lucky at this point! ;) I am thinking it was just bloat. Anyway back to the appointment, the nurse advised us that we might not be able to hear a heartbeat yet with the Doppler considering 13 weeks might still be early. Well she started searching for the heartbeat and after about a minute I started becoming nervous. Mark and I have faith that everything is OK, but I still can't help the worrying. It is so different now knowing that our baby is in there! After a couple of minutes and moving on over to the other side of my belly, she found it!! I was so relieved when I finally heard the little thumping! I definitely have to say that those were the longest minutes I have ever gone through! The baby's heartbeat was at 172 beats per minute which she said was GREAT! My blood pressure was good and everything else is as it should be, our next appointment is February 17. She said they will start measuring my belly then, hopefully by that point I will have put on some weight. :)

First Trimester Milestones

  • First Positive Home Pregnancy Test
  • Getting to tell my husband he is going to be a Daddy!!
  • Realizing that "I am going to be a Mommy"... Me? Really?
  • Experiencing the joys of morning sickness
  • Spending our Honeymoon on Gingerale and Gum
  • Getting to sleep for 11 hours, waking up and still being tired!
  • First Ultrasound, we got to see the baby and the heartbeat flickering away
  • Second Ultrasound, we actually got to "hear" the heartbeat
  • Getting to experience the many tears of joy, frustration, happiness, sadness, anxiousness (OH the hormones)
  • Receiving my first baby gift. A onesie from Daddy! He wrapped it and put it under our Christmas tree!
  • Getting to tell our parents they are going to be GRANDPARENTS!
  • No longer being able to sleep through the night without getting up to use the bathroom.
  • Making our first "Baby Purchase" a glider for the nursery!
  • Overcoming our first pregnancy scare
  • Last but not least, getting to hear the heartbeat again, this time with a Doppler! It's amazing all the emotions that you go through when you hear that little sound!

Baby at 13 Weeks

Your fetus is forming teeth and vocal cords... savor this, their non-functional phase. Baby is approaching normal proportions, with a head now only one third the size of the body. Intestines are in the process of moving from the umbilical cord to the baby's tummy.
