Eli's Overdue 1 Week Update

Ok, so here is my long overdue blog on Eli's first week! Everything is going great with the baby. He is adjusting well to the outside world! It was hard being in the hospital the first week because we could not establish a routine and his sleeping kept getting interrupted every time a nurse would walk in. The first two days back home were a little hard because he was used to being up the throughout the night, however the third day was GREAT! He is only getting up to feed twice and as soon as he feeds he goes back to sleep! Yesterday I even had to wake him up at 4:30 am because he did not wake up the entire night! he went 5 1/2 hours sleeping until Mark and I decided it was time to wake him up since he really shouldn't go that long without eating. He is eating like a champ too! I had a hard time getting him to breastfeed the first week, partially because of me. I felt so weak that I thought I was going to drop him. I had to call for Mark to come take him from me because I was so scared I could not hold on to him so I pumped and we bottle fed him the breast milk for a few days. I am thankfully doing so much better now and decided to try the boob again and he had no issue latching on! I think it is actually soothing for him and I love being able to bond with him like that. My favorite part is putting him to bed at night because he can fall asleep right there! :) He lost 10 oz at the hospital however at his newborn visit with the Pediatrician he had already gained 6 of them back! His umbilical chord fell off two days ago and his circumcision healed really well! He loves being swaddled and falling asleep on Daddy's belly! Mark is great at putting him to sleep. He is pooping and eating just as a baby should and Mark and I have both already gotten squirted on while changing his diaper! :)

I am doing a lot better too. I have had a few days where I have felt pretty weak and my bp has only been high two days since we have been home. I have my own personal doctor here though ;) Mark is doing a wonderful job taking care of me and the baby. He went out and got a bp machine along with all my medicine the day we got home from the hospital. He is really good at staying on top of times I am suppose to be taking my medication. He has had a hard time leaving for work in the mornings and he calls throughout the day. I had my mom staying here with me through Wednesday so I took advantage of the fact that she could take care of the baby and got some rest. My aunt has been over to help during the day since my mom left until Mark gets here, and Mark's mom is coming in on Sunday and staying for a week, after that depending on how I am doing, my mom might come up for another week but I am hoping that by that point, my blood count will be up again and I will have much more energy!

Mark is doing great as well. He has been so wonderful and helps out with anything that he can. He loves coming home and having some belly time with Eli, he changes diapers, and loves feeding him when he gets the chance. Eli is so much like his daddy already. He is such a curious boy. He even sleeps like Mark with his hands over his head! Mark of course loves the fact that his son is taking after him! He tells me daily that he is ready for baby # 2... I of course would like to wait a good while! :)

He was not a happy baby! (After a diaper change)
